Fragmented Forms at Annette Studios on March 8

This ensemble of some of Toronto’s fiercest experimentalists turns medieval European and Makam music inside out.

Fragmented Forms explores the possibilities of improvisation by utilizing both the microtonal aspect of Makam music and free improvisation, and how the two coalesce. From Paris to Istanbul, this musical mind-warp straddles the line between primordial and futuristic.

Participating musicians include Araz Salek (tar), Aysel Taghi-Zada (violin), Cory Harper-Latkovich (cello, rebec), Sara Constant (flute and contrabass flute), Yang Chen (percussion).
